According to the official result at Ascot on Friday, Nobelos delivered a 33/1 shock in the Ascot novice result at the 3:40 Juddmonte EBF Restricted Novice Stakes. The Irish-trained juvenile, ridden by Rob Hornby for trainer Charles Hills, denied Brushstroke by three-quarters of a length on Good ground.
Bumped at the break, Nobelos settled second early, moved alongside the pace-setter by halfway and pushed to the front inside the final furlong to score. The winning time of 1m 16.68s underlined the competitive nature of the Ascot novice result on a testing six-furlong card.
Rob Hornby Lands 33/1 Victory
Ray Dawson’s Brushstroke kept Nobelos honest to the line in second, held mid-pack early before being roused approaching the final furlong. War Chest, partnered by Rhys Clutterbuck, finished third beaten only 0.1 lengths further back, while Soldier Of The Sea ran into fourth under Taylor Fisher, beaten a nose.
The Ascot novice result capped a profitable card for Jamie Osborne’s stable. Malachy’s Wish claimed the 4:15 Classified Stakes at 7/1 under Saffie Osborne, while Hickory landed the feature at 15/2. The morning preview detailed the competitive Ascot Hospitality Handicap, where the winner emerged with a three-quarter-length margin from Moonfall.
Maiden winners San Jose (15/8 favourite) and Clarity (3/1) also prevailed on the card, with Clarity earning victory in the 3:05 by responding to pressure inside the final furlong under James Doyle.
