According to the official result at Newcastle, Victory Sound held off Blairtum Night in the Mini Golf Handicap result, winning at 2/1F ridden by Connor Beasley for trainer Mark Usher. The winning margin was just 0.3 lengths in the 7f handicap on the all-weather surface.
The short-priced favourite made heavy work of defending that advantage. Blairtum Night, returned at 14/1, closed relentlessly into the final furlong and pressed the leader hard, but when the Mini Golf Handicap result was confirmed, Victory Sound had held on by the narrowest of margins. Bantz, at 10/1, chased home the runner-up just half a length behind in a tightly compressed finish, underlining how competitive the Mini Golf Handicap result proved across the field.
Victory Sound Holds Nerve In Newcastle Thriller
The card’s feature race, the Admiral Jackpot Novice Stakes, delivered a more straightforward affair. Interstate’s form read clearly—the 4/9F favourite for John & Thady Gosden, ridden by Robert Havlin, moved smoothly to the front just after the 2f marker and kicked clear inside the final furlong to beat Treble Bass by 2.25 lengths. Home Secretary, the 30/100F chalk for Sir Mark Prescott with Dylan Hogan, won the 2m½f handicap by just half a length over Tarbat Ness, while Mussab made short work of the 5f novice at 1/4F, cantering home by four lengths for Richard & Peter Fahey.
Newsboy’s three winning selections—Interstate, Home Secretary and Mussab—offset earlier losses to keep the tipping ledger in credit across the Newcastle card.
