Zavateri won the Celebration Mile result at Goodwood on Saturday as the odds-on favourite, with Charles Bishop steering the Irish runner to victory for trainer Eve Johnson Houghton. Returning at 11/10, the runner claimed the Group 2 prize worth £113,420 in a winning time of 1m 43.91s on soft ground over the mile.
Zavateri defeated Qirat (13/2) by three and a half lengths in a contest that bore out the form guide outlined in our morning preview of the Celebration Mile. The performance rating of 124 — an improvement from an official mark of 117 — underlines that this was a decisive victory, and the Celebration Mile result validates the market reading.
Celebration Mile Result Confirms Zavateri’s Credentials
Fast Tracker took third place at 12/1, a further two and a quarter lengths back. Zavateri‘s speed rating of 110 places it well clear of the exposed opposition in a Group 2 that saw several well-regarded runners fail to sparkle.
Hector Crouch and George Scott combined to take the 2:00 handicap with Forty Years On (6/4 favourite), which moved from a rating of 96 to 101 in an impressive display. The 2:35 contest fell to Too Soon at 4/1 for trainers Gary & Josh Moore and jockey Warren Fentiman by four and a half lengths. Earlier, Silverella upset the odds at 14/1 in the 1:25 Fillies’ Restricted Novice Stakes for David Probert and Marcus Tregoning.
