Andy Newton’s Royal Ascot Tips on Day Five 2026: Saturday Best Bets

2:30pm Norfolk Stakes Group 2 5f ITV / Sky

Surprise, surprise – another Royal Ascot race trainer Aidan O’Brien has done well in – winning three of the last 11 and four in total.

He’ll be a warm order to add to that too with Carry The Flag, who will enjoy the drop back to 5f after just getting run out of things over 6f the last day.

But that form is rock solid anyway, with the winner Great Barrier Reef winning the Coventry Stakes on Tuesday.

He’s the most likely winner, but no value and with 9 of the last 10 winners drawn 10 or lower his 13 berth might be a negative.

Orthodox is reported to be working well and a horse the Cox team like, but is another drawn high in 16.

So I’ll take a chance on the US runner EZ TINA, for Wesley Ward, who has won this race twice in the past.

She won on debut at Woodbine over 5f – making all and also gets a handy 3lbs mares’ allowance – and is drawn low in 3.

I also feel that WHERE LOVE LIVES is overpriced from gate 1, having already won a Listed race well.

That came at Sandown last time out and the form has been boosted with the 2nd Adaay Of Scarlett running 2nd in the Coventry and the 4th Bill The Bull winning since too.

🥇 EZ TINA
🥈WHERE LOVE LIVES
🥉Carry The Flag

3:05pm Hardwicke Stakes Group 2 1m4f ITV / Sky

Many chances here with the race looking to revolve around the classy mare Kalpana, who returned this season with a neck second to West Wind Blows.

She loves Ascot – 3-1-2-1 – and is sure to have come on a lot for that last run. With Wonderful Tonight the last mare to win this in 2021.

Former Leger winner Jan Brueghel is feared too, but that last run in the Coronation Cup was run in brutal conditions and with only 14 days between drinks that would be the worry.

The last French-trained winner was in 1980, so former King George winner Goliath and  Best Secret will be looking to end this run.

While Rebel Romance last year was the only winning 7+ year-old since 1923, which would be a negative for Giavellotto and West Wind Blows and Phantom Flight.

Amiloc won the King Edward VII Stakes at this meeting last year and is respected back in trip.

But I just feel that ETHICAL DIAMOND hasn’t quite got the credit he deserves for winning the Breeders’ Cup turf last season.

He also landed the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes here last season and was 4th in the same race in 2024, so we know the track suits.

He’ll love the quick ground and has gone well fresh in the past so the 84 day break is actually a plus.

🥇 ETHICAL DIAMOND (e/w)
🥈 Kalpana
🥉Goliath

3:40pm Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes Group 1 6f ITV / Sky

We’ve not had a winner from stall 1 in the last 21 runnings, which is a negative for Lake Forest, despite impressing last time at Haydock.

Commanche Brave and Sajir are others that are sure to be popular.

While we’ve also last year’s 3rd Flora Of Bermuda back for more and will have the services of James Doyle, who has won this race three times in the last seven years.

I think KING OF BLUE is interesting too for James Fanshawe. He might be a hard horse to win with but is often never far away and landed the 2024 Champion Sprint here not long ago.

A recent 2nd in the Minster Stakes at York should have him spot on and the yard have two past wins in the race (The Tin Man and Society Rock).

But a lot of the focus has been on the runners from afar – with Joliestar coming over from Australia. She’s won her last three and gets the 3lbs mares’ allowance too.

She often comes from off the pace, so if you do like her, then she may trade bigger in-play.

But 18 of the last 23 winners had run at Ascot before – she hasn’t

However, one horse that has is SATONO REVE, who was a close 2nd in this race last season (watch below).

This Japanese raider was last seen running second to the classy Ka Ying Rising at Sha Tin last time and is the joint top-rated in the field with Lake Forest.

So that track experience just edges it for me and a certain Ryan Moore, who has won this pot three times in the last 10 years, is also an added bonus.

🥇 SATONO REVE
🥈 KIND OF BLUE
🥉 Flora Of Bermuda

4:20pm Jersey Stakes Group 3 7f ITV / Sky

The Prettiest Star ran a blinder to be 4th in the 1000 Guineas last time and at this stiffer track he drop back to 7f will be fine.

While in the other Guineas (2000), the 4th Into The Sky should also benefit from the drop in distance.

He’s a horse that likes to get on with things, but just didn’t quite see out the mile – Oisin Murphy rides.

However, the word on the street is that SABER STRIKE is a fair sort for the William Haggas yard.

He’s been working well with some useful sorts – including some of the useful horses from the stable.

This Night Of Thunder colt is also a proven winner over this 7f trip and the form of his last win at HQ has been franked with the 4th (Elusive Butterfly) winning a Listed race since.

The Haggas yard won this in 2008 with Aqlaam and I’ll take Saber to ‘Strike’ for a second time for them.

🥇 SABER STRIKE
🥈The Prettiest Star
🥉Into The Sky

5:00pm Wokingham Stakes Handicap 6f ITV / Sky

Like each year, the Wokingham is a tough race to call – with many chances and these days some potentially Listed or Group runners in as handicappers.

Look at last year’s second More Thunder, who was 2nd in the G1 Queen Anne Stakes on Tuesday.

Double Rush could be another and he hails from the same yard as More Thunder (Andrew Balding). He’s impressed in his last two wins and a 10lb hike might not be enough to stop him if he is Group level.

Three of the last 10 winners came from stall 10, so Realign – for William Haggas – has this in his favour.

Completely Random was 5th last year and is back rated the same (98) and has Ryan Moore in the plate.

14 of the last 16 have come from double-figure draws – so at a price the Oisin Murphy-ridden Dubai Swing (23) – is shortlisted as he’ll enjoy step back up in trip after.

It’s a bit of a shame TWO TRIBES is drawn low (5) but I might still have him on the list. Mainly as he’s a horse that’s gone well fresh before, is a course winner and comes from the in-form Richard Spencer yard.

But the main play will be TEN POUNDS, who was third in this last season and is back rated 3lbs lower.

Jamie Spencer rides (won this in 2013) and heads here off an excellent running on second to Washington Heights in a Listed race at Carlisle.

Hopefully Ten Pounds can land the ‘money’.

🥇 TEN POUNDS
🥈TWO TRIBES
🥉Double Rush
4th Dubai Bling

5:35pm Golden Gates Stakes Handicap 1m2f ITV / Sky

Lost Boys was only a head in front of SAHARA KING last time at Newbury in the London Cup, but with a pound difference and also the cheekpieces on for the first time can turn that form around.

This Richard Hannon runner is also the pick of James Doyle, who could have ridden Lost Boys too – which is a further plus.

Accredit is noted in a handicap for the first time for the Gosdens – having won well at Sandown and Haydock at the end of last season.

We’ve also only seen six past runnings of this newer race, with two winning favourites, while 5 of the last 6 winners came between gates 13-17./

Which would a plus for the main pick Sahara King (17) and also Wild Thoughts, Lost Boys, Balzac and Evanesco.

But the small sample of stats also tell us the Andrew Blading yard (and Oisin Murphy) have won the race twice.

They team up again with ALLEGRESSE, who is drawn low in 1, which isn’t totally ideal.

But you can put a line through his last run as probably hated the soft ground and Epsom track.

Before that he’s got fair form and being a winner on the AW at Kempton, then he’ll enjoy the much better ground here.

At a price, for connections that we know like this race – he’s worth an interest at a nice price.

🥇 SAHARA KING
🥈ALLEGRESSE
🥉Lost Boys

6:10pm Queen Alexandra Stakes Conditions 2m6f ITV4 / Sky

The final race at Royal Ascot 2026 is run over 2m6f and many argue it’s a glorified bumper with a lot of big NH yard in attendance.

Willie Mullins has won the race five times in the last 14 too – including last year with Sober, so his Le Destrier will be popular having ruin Scandinavia to 1 1/4 lengths last time at Leopardstown.

He’s a horse that’s run in Poland, Germany, France and Ireland – so will be adding Britain to that list here.

Mullins also has the Colin Keane-ridden Columbus.

French Master won the Copper Horse last season, but the jury would be out over this trip having been down the field in the Goodwood Cup over 2m.

Dallas Star was 4th in 2025 but hasn’t won in 13, while the Ryan Moore-ridden Illinois is sure to be a big player as the top-rated and running off level weights in this Conditions race.

But he was well back in the Coronation Cup at Epsom last time and hasn’t won for over a year.

So I think the safer option is to side with the Chester Cup winner A PIECE OF HEAVEN. The Joseph O’Brien yard have had a top meeting and have also won this race twice in the last three years.

He’s only got 6lbs to find with Illinois on the ratings, but heads here in winning form and we know the trip is likely to be fine – having won the Chester Cup last time over 2m 2 1/2f.(watch below).

Dylan Browne McMonagle rides.

🥇 A PIECE OF HEAVEN
🥈Le Destrier
🥉Illinois
