Andy Newton’s Royal Ascot Tips on Day Four 2026: Friday Best Bets

2:30pm Albany Stakes Group 3 6f ITV / Sky

I was impressed with Light Of Dawn’s debut win at Carlisle and she could be smart, but the 11 day turnaround, in this better race is the small worry.

That said, the Karl Burke yard have a fair recent record in this race, including taking it last year with the classy Venetian Sun.

The Royal runner King’s Prize is noted too after a win first time out at Nottingham, but that form has taken a few knocks since.

So this is best left to the Aidan O’Brien-trained SUN GODDESS, who brings the bet form to the table.

She saw off Green Empress by 5 lengths last time at the Curragh on he first try over 6f and before that ran Carry The Flag (runs on Saturday) to a head at Naas.

Of the rest, Dark Issue is another I liked on debut for the Hannon team, but Sun Goddess is the call to shine in the Royal Ascot day five opener.

🥇 SUN GODDESS
🥈 Light Of Dawn
🥉Dark Issue

3:05pm Commonwealth Cup Group 1 6f ITV / Sky

This is a Royal Ascot race trainer Aidan O’Brien has won just the once – with Caravaggio – and so he’ll be trying to double that tally with Albert Einstein and Charles Darwin.

But both head here with a bit to prove – unlike VENETIAN SUN, who looks like being another big winning favourite on the day.

She won the Albany Stakes (previous race) last season and bounced back from not staying in the 1000 Guineas to win the Sandy Lane at Haydock back over 6f.

Her form over this trip (6f) is second-to-none too – heading here 4-4 – and with proven course form too it’s hard to pick holes in her chance.

Karl Burke also won this in 2016 with a filly Quiet Reflection.

Of the rest, last season’s Windsor Castle winner Havana Hurricane looks over-priced after a good return run at Newbury last time.

While with Division taking silver behind Venetian Sun last time, it could be more of the same for this Wathnan runner.

🥇 VENETIAN SUN
🥈 Division
🥉Havana Hurricane

3:40pm Duke of Edinburgh Stakes Handicap 1m4f ITV / Sky

Many chances here, including Hopewell Rock, who should improve a stack for his third at Newmarket to Daiquiri Bay, who franked the form too by winning the Copper Horse Handicap at Royal Ascot on Tuesday.

He’s the pick of James Doyle too, over the other Wathnan runner OPPORTUNITY – but it might have been a tough call.

As this Haggas runner caught my eye the last day with a smooth win at Carlisle and the form of his 3rd at Ascot before that has been franked many times too.

The Haggas team also won this in 2022 with Candleford.

Emit (Ryan Moore) and the Royal runner Warrant Holder are others to note – but the 3rd and 5th in the last-named recent win have lost since.

So the one I like here is PLAGUE DE HAVRE for the Andrew Balding team, with Oisin Murphy riding.

He was third the last day at York, but that was his first run on the turf this season and only his second since last July.

Meaning he’s sure to improve again and the form of his win at Haydock back in July has been boosted with the runner-up – Paddy The Squire – coming 2nd in the Copper Horse earlier this week.

🥇 PLAGUE DE HAVRE
🥈 OPPORTUNITY
🥉 Hopewell Rock

4:20pm Coronation Stakes Group 1 1m (round) ITV / Sky

It’s True Love vs PRECISE the trilogy – with the head-to-head sitting at 1-1 this season.

As True Love landed the English 1000 Guineas and Precise the Irish version.

Ryan Moore has picked Precise this time, but has got it wrong in both their other meetings – but surely he can’t incorrectly again!

Precise showed a top turn-of-foot to win at the Curragh and despite this being her first run at Ascot, I think she’s more likely to see out the mile over this stiffer track than True Love.

Yes, True Love has the track edge, having won the Queen Mary – but that was over 5f – and even though she stayed the mile at Newmarket, it will be harder to do so here at Ascot.

Touleen and Balantina, with Oisin Murphy riding, can fight it out for the bronze.

🥇 PRECISE
🥈 True Love
🥉Balantina

5:00pm Sandringham Stakes Handicap 1m (straight) ITV / Sky

Dig out that trusted ‘Ascot pin’ again as we’ve 30 runners heading to post here for the Sandringham.

The Gosden yard have won 2 of the last 10 and have a solid chance with the exciting Seet, who has the services of Ryan Moore – but is also well found in the market.

Glyfada has impressed many with recent wins at Naas and Killarney and the second (What About Us) in her last win has won since to bolster the form.

Both Seet and Glyfada are into a handicap for the first time.

But the two I’m chancing here are ROSA INGLESA and ZOOMING.

The former comes from the Charlie Fellows yard, who have history in this race – winning the pot in 2019 and 2020.

She’s up 9lbs for a good win the last day at Nottingham , but the 4th and 6th have both won since.

Then Zooming for William Haggas is noted up in trip. Yes, a bit of an unknown, but has been tried in better races (Listed and Group) and so if the longer distance suits she could outrun her odds.

🥇 ROSA INGLESA
🥈 ZOOMING
🥉Glyfada

5:35pm King Edward VII Stakes Group 2 1m 4f ITV / Sky

Having bypassed Epsom, Water To Wine will be another of the short-priced jollies on the day.

This Gosden runner heads here 2-from-2 after a few impressive wins and the 3rd and 4th from her Newbury April win have won since.

He’s certainly and exciting prospect and could easily win this as he likes.

But he’s taking on an O’Brien runner in CAUSEWAY, who has a lot more experience (5 runs) and has won his last four.

Ryan Moore rides and the Ballydoyle boys have won 2 of the last 6.

His last win was a head success at the Curragh in a Group 3 over 1m2f and looks the sort to have more to come upped in trip.

So, overall Water To Wine could easily land the drinks money here, but Causeway looks the better value to me and has been supported in the coming days to suggest connections feel he’s up to the task.

🥇 CAUSEWAY
🥈 Water To Wine
🥉 Golden Story

6:10pm Palace of Holyroodhouse Stakes Handicap 5f ITV4 / Sky

A tough final day four race, and one that will have many Royal Ascot tips flying about in.

There’s only been six past runnings, which has seen one winning favourite.

All of the last six though have carried 9-1 or less, plus hailed from stalls 11-25.

In fact – 3 of the last 5 came from stalls 24 or 25 – so Moojeed and Cherry Baker might be on your radar for that reason.

But the consistent DICKENSIAN is chanced for trainer Kevin Ryan, after a good win at York in a Listed race last time.

He’s into a handicap for the first time here on a mark of 104 and topweight, but also has valuable track form – when a close 2nd in the Windsor Castle last season.

I also think it’s interesting that MAY ANGEL is back in trip to 5f from 7f. The Gosden yard are not really famed for their sprinters in recent years, but she’s shown plenty of pace to suggest the ease in distance is worth a go.

The tongue-tie is on too and Oisin Murphy is an obvious bonus in the plate.

Of the rest, the unbeaten Westport and Gold Digger from the in-form Richard Spencer yard are noted too.

🥇 DICKENSIAN
🥈 MAY ANGEL
🥉 Gold Digger
