- 2000 Guineas winner Bow Echo on track for Royal Ascot
- St James’s Palace Stakes target for Bow Echo
- Watch: Bow Echo’s Newmarket 2000 Guineas win
Top jockey Billy Loughnane says Bow Echo is the horse he is concentrating on as the 2000 Guineas winner heads towards the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Loughnane sets Bow Echo focus for Royal Ascot Palace test
Billy Loughnane is keeping the build-up around Bow Echo deliberately simple as the unbeaten 2000 Guineas winner moves towards the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot.
On Tuesday, Racing TV carried fresh comments from Loughnane making clear that his focus is on the George Boughey-trained colt rather than the wider noise around one of next week’s most anticipated Royal Ascot clashes.
The Group One St James’s Palace Stakes is one of the day one features at the meeting – run on Tuesday 16th June – and last year was won by Field Of Gold.
Bow Echo remains the centre of Loughnane’s Ascot team
Loughnane described Bow Echo as a straightforward, high-class ride whose attitude and turn of foot have made the partnership work so well.
The pair won the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket, a result that pushed both horse and jockey into a sharper spotlight – with Royal Ascot as the next major stage.
Ahead of the race, the Sporting Life’s current racecard lists the St James’s Palace Stakes as a Group 1 over 7f213yds at 16:20 on Tuesday June 16. Bow Echo is among the entries.
The opposition is strong enough to make the race more than a routine Guineas follow-up.
Recent Irish 2000 Guineas winner Gstaad is expected to reoppose after following his Newmarket second to Bow Echo, while Rayif and Talk Of New York add further depth from France and Godolphin.
Royal Ascot chance carries extra weight
For Loughnane, the setting matters. He broke through at Royal Ascot in 2024 with a double and now returns with a Classic winner.
His comments also show why the Bow Echo story remains useful without a new target. The jockey is not trying to turn the Palace Stakes into a public match race.
The task is for Bow Echo to reproduce his Newmarket form on the biggest summer stage.
Bow Echo brings the strongest Newmarket evidence, but the Royal Ascot test will ask him to confirm that form against several credible three-year-old milers.
With the latest St James’s Stakes betting odds seeing Bow Echo as favourite at 11/10 with Midnite.
Gstaad is next best at 7/2, with Talk Of New York 5/1 ad Rayif 9/1.
