This update to the Frankel Epsom Derby progeny story, published on 28 September 2026, brings the picture up to date ahead of next year’s classic. Frankel remains the most influential stallion of his generation, and his stock continues to shape the market for Epsom’s most famous race.
Epsom Derby picture updated for 2026 season
Four colts by Frankel were set to line up in the 2026 Epsom Derby: Benvenuto Cellini, Item, Ancient Egypt and Action. Their presence underlines just how deep his influence runs through the current classic generation.
That quartet arrives with history behind them. Frankel already has one Derby winner to his name, and connections of all four colts will know exactly what that pedigree can produce on the day.
Frankel’s stellar unbeaten racing career
Frankel won all 14 of his career races, a record that still sets the benchmark for any horse racing in Britain. He retired without a single defeat, a rare feat at the top level of the sport.
For all that brilliance, Frankel never ran in the Epsom Derby himself. His unbeaten career was built at other distances and other tracks, which makes his later impact on the Derby through his offspring all the more notable.
How many Epsom Derby winners has Frankel sired?
Frankel has sired one Epsom Derby winner to date. Adayar took the 2021 running for trainer Charlie Appleby and owner Godolphin, giving his sire a first Derby success from the paddock rather than the saddle.
That single victory keeps the Frankel Epsom Derby progeny tally at one, for now. No other Frankel colt has won the race since, though the strength of his 2026 team shows why hopes of a second success keep building each spring.
What happens next for Frankel’s stud career
Frankel stands at Banstead Manor Stud for the 2026 breeding season. Demand for his cover shows no sign of easing, given the quality he keeps producing at the highest level.
With Benvenuto Cellini, Item, Ancient Egypt and Action all in the 2026 Derby picture, breeders and punters alike will be watching closely to see whether Adayar gets company at the top of Frankel’s Derby record.
