So Where Is The Best Post Position In The Preakness Stakes?
The best Preakness Stakes post position in recent years is anywhere between gates 4 and 7, with all winners since 2013 coming from gate 9 or lower.
12 months ago, we saw JOURNALISM come from gate 2 and 12 of the last 14 winners have been from gate 6 or lower.
But since 2004 (last 22 editions), there has been just two winners from gate 2, so Journalism might have got lucky on the day.
This year’s horse in gate 2 is OCELLI, so see what the Jody Demling Preakness Stakes picks think to his chances.

Stalls 5 & 7 Have Been The Best Preakness Stakes Post Position
Over the last 22 years, gate 7 has been the joint-most successful alongside gate 5 with four wins each.
And it’s also worth highlighting that post positions 4, 5, 6 and 7 have given the best returns since 200 – with 12 wins from the last 22 runnings – just under 55%.
Talkin is in gate 5 and The Hell We Did is in gate 7. They’re both underdogs in the field, so could surprise a few with their lucky gate numbers.
Whoever goes on to win the Preakness Stakes purse, they’ll have to navigate the race alongside 13 other horses.
