York Races

2:20 – Sky Bet Race To The Ebor Jorvik Handicap (GBBPlus Race) Cl2 (4yo+) 1m4f ITV

The William Haggas yard love to target this race – winning two of the last five and looks to have a top chance of adding to that with KLASSLEADER.

This 4yold has been favourite in his last three starts – with one win and two seconds.

Probably just didn’t quite see out the 1m6f the last day at Haydock – with another runner here Sing Us A Song winning.

So the drop back to 1m4f here is a plus – winning over this trip at Ffos Las back in August. And also meets that runner on 2lbs better terms.

Of the rest, Stressfree was second last year but is back rated 7lbs higher, while the third 12 months ago Plage De Havre is also back but up 11lbs.

🥇 KLASSLEADER
🥈Plage De Havre
🥉Stressfree

  • 6 of the last 9 winners came between stalls 5-7

2:55 – Churchill Tyres Handicap Cl2 (4yo+ 0-105) 6f ITV

With 21 of the last 23 winners from stalls 5+, then history tells us to concentrate our search here.

While 39% of the last 23 winners have been aged 4, so I think a chance should be taken on the Andrew Balding runner TROPICAL STORM.

He’s drawn in the middle in 8, so will have options and was also a Listed winner (5f)at this meeting last season.

Yes, he hasn’t won since, but has slipped to a mark of 93 and didn’t run too badly when 3rd (of 11) at Goodwood last time.

He does need to proven himself still over this 6f trip, but has only had two tries over it and the visor is also on for the first time to help.

Tropical Storm could rain on his rivals parade here.

Of the others, Rousing Encore won this last season and is back rated 5lbs higher. With Dark Thirty 3rd and a pound lower too.

Plus the Haggas camp also have another leading chance with CD scorer Binhareer, who won easy here last season but is up 10lbs this time.

🥇TROPICAL STORM (e/w)
🥈Binhareer
🥉Dark Thirty

  • 2025 Winner: Rousing Encore (22/1)

3:30 – Go Local Stores Minster Stakes (Group 2) Cl1 (3yo+) 6f ITV

The newly-named Minster Stakes is the lowest-graded race on the day one York card on Wednesday some of the best sprinters take to the stage.

This division is very very open at the moment – backed up last season, with a stack of different horses winning landing these top sprints.

Meaning anything can probably win this.

So a chance is taken on the James Fanshawe-trained KIND OF BLUE bouncing back to form for the Wathnan Racing boys.

He’s still only aged 5, so has plenty of time to recapture his form and let’s not forget he landed the Group One Champions Sprint in 2024.

Yes, he didn’t sparkle last season, but still ran a few nice races in defeat, including a 2nd in the G1 Sprint Cup at Haydock.

Last year’s Commonwealth Cup winner Time For Sandals will be better for a recent third at Newmarket in the Abernant Stakes.

While, if settling better, I’d not be shocked to see Jasour run better than a 20/1 shot.

🥇KIND OF BLUE
🥈Time For Sandals
🥉Jasour

4:05 – Tattersalls Musidora Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies) Cl1 (3yo) 1m2½f ITV

The last horse to win the Musidora and follow-up in the Epsom Oaks was Soul Sister in 2023 and I think another Gosden runner can make a case for becoming the next.

They run the promising LEGACY LINK here, who is around 8/1 for the Oaks but will need to take this in order to be taken seriously for the fillies Classic next month.

However, she stayed on well in the Fillies’ Mile at Newmarket last season over a mile to suggest this step up in trip today will be a big plus for this Dubawi filly.

The form of that race has also since been advertised with the 3rd Evolutionist running second in the 1000 Guineas earlier this month.

While, in addition to the Gosden team winning this in 2023 with Soul Sister, they also took the prize in 2022, 2017 and 2016.

The unbeaten Felicitas and the Aidan O’Brien entry Moments Of Joy can follow home the pick.

🥈MOMENTS OF JOY
🥉FELICITAS

  • 2025 Winner: Whirl (7/2)

4:40 – Conundrum HR Consulting Handicap Cl3 (3yo 0-95) 7f ITV

No winners from 1, 2 or 3 in the last 14 runnings, so I’m happy to ignore Coati Lights, Advance Twentryfive and Startled from the low gates.

Al Najashi will draw the eye with a string of wins – but is up 9lbs and switched to the turf here.

But with 9 of the last 11 winners from stall 4-9, then I’m happy to home in around these numbers.

With a chance taken on the Fahey runner FIRST TIME.

This 3yold gets in here from gate 8 and is having his first start for the yard after being with the Charlton team last season.

He’s only had five career runs, but has been in the top two in four of those and was only just touched off on his first try over today’s 7f on the AW at Newcastle last October.

The yard also like this race – winning three of the last 14 and so I think he’s sure to be well tuned up for this too.

I’ll take a chance on First Time winning on his ‘first’ start back.

Of the rest, The Resdev Scholar and First Legion, who are drawn 6 and 7, also catch the eye.

🥇FIRST TIME (e/w)
🥈First Legion
🥉The Resdev Scholar
