William Haggas Holds Hot York Record Ahead Of Dante Meeting

The William Haggas York record couldn’t look any better ahead of this week’s Dante meeting on the Knavesmire.

William Haggas Record At York Impressed Last Season

Newmarket trainer William Haggas boasted an impressive record at York last season, operating at a 29% strike rate with runners there.

From 45 runs, Haggas had 13 winners and he’s got a good group of horses entered this week.

With 29% of his runners winning at York last season, and plenty others placing, he should be a trainer to keep on your side this season when punting at the track.

He also has the second favourite in the Dante betting odds, MORSHDI. Haggas’ inmate was due to run at Chester last week in the Dee Stakes, but was a non-runner due to problems with the ground.

Morshdi is also entered in the Epsom Derby, and would see his odds shorten dramatically if he’s able to win the Dante. This son of Dubawi won a maiden here last season, so has every chance. He was a Listed winner on seasonal debut too at Newmarket.

And the William Haggas York record wasn’t only good last season. He’s also smashing it over the last five years.

Over the last five seasons, Haggas has had 169 runners at York, with 34 winning – a solid 20% strike rate, whilst also returning a profit to level-stakes again.

York Dante Meeting Schedule

The York Dante meeting is one of the best three-days of action in the early stage of the flat season.

  • Wednesday 13th May: 1:45pm – 5:15pm (Feature Race: Group 2 Minster Stakes)
  • Thursday 14th May: 1:45pm – 5:15pm (Feature Race: Group 2 Dante Stakes)
  • Friday 15th May: 1:45pm – 5:15pm (Feature Race: Group 2 Yorkshire Cup)

William Haggas York Runners To Keep An Eye On This Week

As seen from the success in the last five seasons, it’s worth keeping Haggas’ York runners on your side.

He has 15 horses entered over the course of the three-day meeting.

ELMONJED goes in the Group 2 Minster Stakes on Wednesday. The son of Blue Point has won on each of his last three visits to York, including twice last season.

He’s a York specialist, and York is a specialist’s track so Elmonjed might go close on his second start of the season.

MORSHDI as already mentioned goes in the Group 2 Dante on Thursday and there’s plenty of excitement about this horse, who could end up being another lively Derby hope for Haggas, which the Dante trends suggest may happen.

And fan favourite HAMISH is entered in the Group 2 Yorkshire Cup on Friday, although he’s not raced over 1m6f since winning over that trip at this track in July 2023. Yet to be seen if he’ll be declared or not.
