Bob Baffert Looking To Extend Preakness Stakes Record With Crude Velocity
No trainer has won the Preakness Stakes more times than master trainer Bob Baffert. He’s already won the second leg of the Triple Crown eight times and he’ll be looking to extend his record in 2026.
He currently has the hot favourite in the shape of CRUDE VELOCITY, who is unbeaten after three starts.
The son of Beau Liam was an easy debut winner at Santa Anita back in March and followed up in April when winning a Claiming race at the same track.
He then headed to Churchill Downs and won a Grade 2 on Kentucky Derby night.
Baffert is now shooting for the stars and the bookmakers have made Crude Velocity a hot favourite for the Preakness Stakes.
The last Preakness Stakes that the Hall of Fame trainer won was in 2023 with NATIONAL TREASURE. He first won it in 1997 with Silver Charm.
However, unlike previous renewals, the Preakness will now be run at Laurel Park this year with Pimlico Racecourse still undergoing renovations.
And from next year, Churchill Downs will host the Preakness after paying $85million to secure the race.

Who Won The 2025 Preakness Stakes?
The 2025 Preakness Stakes was won by JOURNALISM – who went one better than his runner-up effort in the Kentucky Derby.
Michael McCarthy’s horse showed great will and desire to win the Preakness, despite getting bumped and blocked in on the home straight.
He powered through and eventually beat Gosger by half-a-length. His Preakness Stakes betting odds when winning were EVENS.
Next he raced in the Belmont Stakes, but was beaten by Sovereignty once again in a Kentucky Derby rematch.
After his three-year-old campaign, Journalism was gelded.

Kentucky Derby Hero Golden Tempo To Skip Preakness Stakes
Unfortunately for his fans, Kentucky Derby hero Golden Tempo will be skipping the Preakness Stakes.
Trainer Cherie DeVaux confirmed the news – and he’ll be given more time. Instead, he’ll be making a return in the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park – the third leg of the Triple Crown.
