Willie Mullins Grand National Winners: How Many Does He Have?
Closutton maestro Willie Mullins has won just about everything there is to win in National Hunt racing – and he’s even starting to win big races on the flat.
And on top of that, Mullins has won the Aintree Grand National THREE times and he’ll be looking to win a third one on the bounce this weekend.
He would become the first trainer since Vincent O’Brien to win the Grand National three times in a row – O’Brien famously did so between 1953 and 1955.
Mullins First Won The Grand National In 2005
It was all the way back in 2005 when Mullins trained his first Grand National winner.
Running in the famous Trevor Hemmings silks, Hedgehunter was Mullins’ first winner in the race and he would go on to run in it four times. He attempted to follow up his 2005 success the next year but instead finished second behind Numbersixvalverde.
Out of all the Grand National winners over the years, Hedgehunter was one of the most impressive as he destroyed the field with a 14-length domination.

I Am Maximus Was The Second Willie Mullins Grand National Winner
Mullins would have to wait another 19 years to get his next Grand National winner. I Am Maximus was an impressive National hero in 2024 and then came second the following year.
I Am Maximus, one of the many 2026 JP McManus Grand National runners will be back again this year to try and win the race for a second year.
And McManus’ horse is the current Grand National favourite and it would be no surprise to see him hold favouritsm right until post time.
Paul Townend is likely to ride him and he’s got plenty going for him after a smashing campaign so far.

Nick Rockett Gave Mullins A Third National Win
Mullins would win the Grand National for a second season in a row in 2025 when Nick Rockett produced a big shock, dotting up at 33/1 under Patrick Mullins.
Nick Rockett also ran in a respected Grand National trial last time out so he should be raring and ready to go for his title defence.
And last year’s win was significant for Mullins as Nick Rockett led home a 1-2-3-5-7 for the yard.
