How To Use The Cheltenham Festival Trends 2026 📈
Let’s be clear — trends aren’t the holy grail.
They won’t magically hand you every winner at the 2026 Cheltenham Festival.
But they are a powerful tool, especially when it comes to whittling down the field in the big handicaps.
When you study past Cheltenham winners, patterns start to emerge. Certain ages crop up time and again.
Specific prep runs prove key. Trainers dominate particular races. And when something keeps happening year after year, there’s every chance history could repeat itself.
Cheltenham Festival trends come in all shapes and sizes, so it pays to be selective.
Age, weight carried, trainer record, recent form — they all matter. The trick is knowing which ones deserve your full attention.
Just like the two races that haven’t seen a winning Cheltenham Festival favourite in over 10 years.
Apply those trends to the final declarations and suddenly the picture becomes clearer.
You can quickly rule out runners that don’t fit the strongest historical markers, while pushing those that tick the right boxes onto your best-bets shortlist.
Take the opening-day feature, the Champion Hurdle.
A huge 80% of the last 15 winners (12 in total) arrived unbeaten that season. And 31 of the last 36 winners — another 86% — had won their most recent race.
So, with that in mind – let’s dive straight into Andy Newton’s 2026 Cheltenham Festival trends for Day One.
