Richard Hannon, trainer of the supremely talented Billesdon Brook, is reportedly erring in favour of entering the filly in the Coronation Stakes, instead of the Prix de Diane.

Billesdon Brook was a 66/1 outside shot winner of the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket earlier this month, and Hannon is now faced with a decision as to how best progress from this position.

The Marlborough-based trainer said:

The only decision that was made was not to go for the Irish Guineas. The Coronation and the Prix de Diane – it is between the two of them.

Do I think she will get a mile and a quarter [Prix de Diane]? It is in her pedigree, she is very easy and there is a chance she might get it. It is a toss up between the two races and we will sit down with the owners and decide.

Hannon then revealed his ideal scenario was for the three-year-old to run in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot:

She is in great form and that is the important thing. Personally, my preference is the Coronation, but I’d be very happy to have a runner with a good chance in the Diane.

Billesdon Brook is enjoying a very strong second year in racing, after a first campaign that saw her clinch three wins in what was a profound arrival on the flat-racing scene.

A Classic victory later, and Billesdon Brook has become one of the most talked about horses in racing.
