The three-time winner of the Dubai Gold Cup Vazirabad looks set for the Gold Cup at Ascot this year.
The highly impressive six-year-old stormed to victory in Meydan, setting a new course-record in the process.
Beating the likes of Sheikhzayeroad, who was back in second and the Charlie Appleby pair, Rare Rhythm and Frontiersman.
Vazirabad, after a four-month layoff, was back in action at the start of March. When trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre gave his charge the tough assignment of contesting in the Nad Al Sheba Trophy, which was classed as his warm-up race. Finishing a good second behind Goldolphins’s Rare Rhythm.
Four weeks later, Vazirabad reversed that form in good fashion and justified favouritism when blasting the field apart, landing another valuable prize over in Dubai.

Trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre’s was in good spirits after another Gold Cup success, when speaking to At The Races.
There is no doubt this is his best ever performance, but im not surprised, he was so well in the run-up to the race, he has really helped my confidence. When you come to Dubai every year, you learn what to do. It is very hot and we have to adapt. We will now target the Ascot Gold Cup in June which im excited about.
Vazirabad made history on Saturday, becoming the first horse ever to win the Gold Cup three times, exciting times ahead for this six-year-old this year it seems.
