Amputee jockey Guy Disney records back-to-back victories

Amputee jockey Guy Disney recorded back-to-back jump racing victories at the Royal Artillery Gold Cup at Sandown, the BBC report.

Rathlin Rose, the David Pipe trained ten-year-old, was ridden by Disney on Friday as the 9-4 favourite defeated Midnight Monty and Renard.

The former soldier and army captain broke records in 2017 after becoming the first amputee jockey to win at a professional racecourse in Britain.

Disney, 35, was struck by a grenade while serving in the army in Afghanistan nine years ago, which now means he rides with a prosthetic lower right leg.

Speaking to the media after his win, Captain Disney said what a privilege it was to ride at such ‘a special place’;

If you look back at however many years it has been going, there is such a connection between horses and the military.

He is now looking to return to Sandown in March and continue his good form when he defends the Grand Military Gold Cup, which he and Rathlin Rose also won last year.
