With the Grand National days away, racing fans and non-racing fans all over the country are drawing horses from a hat, or trying to decide where to plump their hard-earned mud as Saturday approaches.
With various selection strategies available, it seems any one of the forty horses could be worth a punt on. Whether you pick your specimen from an intricate goldfish selection system, blind luck, race form, expert’s columns, or even if you just like the name – we thought we’d give you a hand with the process.
Here are the five horse that might be worth putting some money on – and why!
Road to Riches - 50/1 (Bet 365)
A long-shot and then some, Road to Riches will carry the lowest weight in the race. With the horses at the top adorned with far more mass than Noel Meade’s charge, some may choose this as reason enough to back him!
Anibale Fly - 14/1 (Bet 365)
At the other end of the weight scale is Anibale Fly. The race organisers have deemed this horse so good, they’ve given him the maximum weight. This is one to bet on for all those who think handicaps are a load of rubbish and actually make no difference.
Total Recall - 11/1 (Bet 365)
If you want to pick on form, this may be the horse for you. Unbeaten all season until a fall in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, the Willie Mullins horse may see a drop in price on race-day. Act fast!
Tiger Roll - 11/1 (Bet 365)
Maybe you put a lot of stock in who the jockey is. If so, look no further. Tiger Roll will be topped by Davy Russell, the top jockey at the Cheltenham Festival this year, winning four races over the four days of racing. In short, no one’s hotter than Russell right now.
Chase The Spud - 66/1 (Bet 365)
If you pick horses based on how much you like their name, I think this could be the one for you in the 2018 Grand National.
