Seeyouatmidnight out of Scottish National
Sandy Thomson’s Seeyouatmidnight, a very good chaser at his best, has been ruled out of the Coral Scottish Grand National due to injury.
Thomson’s charge was third in the contest last year and had a lovely prep run for the marathon contest when finishing an excellent second over three miles and two furlongs last month.
A winner at Carlisle in a Listed contest in October, the nine-year-old son of Midnight Legend looked to have an outstanding chance in the four mile chase at Ayr but a setback has ruled Thomson’s stable star out of the event.
The gelding has run just three times this season due to another injury issue but he had previously looked a top class chaser in the making.
Seeyouatmidnight won a Grade Two event at Cheltenham in January 2016 before finishing seventh in the 2016 RSA Chase.
His third in the Scottish Grand National last year was a great run and it is disappointing that one of Scotland’s best chasers will not be able to take part.
Thomson said:
He did a good piece of work on Tuesday and we were very happy with him, but he’s picked up a problem which is nothing to do with his previous one. I’m hoping it’s a bang and nothing more serious – we’ll find out early next week when it’s settled down.
If it is just a bang, then there’s a chance we could go to France with him. I’ve spoken to James Reveley about the possibility of doing that.
